The results are back and they confirmed that Victor Caratini will need surgery for a fractured hamate bone in his hand. The Cubs backup catcher injured it during his final at-bat in Thursday’s 2-0 win over the Pirates. He was still able to hit an RBI-double despite the broken bone.

Caratini will have surgery on Monday and is expected to miss at least 4-6 weeks.

The Cubs have promoted Taylor Davis from Triple-A. He’s a career .281 hitter in the minors and has played in 13 MLB games, getting five hits in 18 at-bats.

Caratini began the season with 8 hits in 14 at-bats.

In other injury news, the Cubs won’t have to face Mike Trout on Friday, when they start their weekend series against the Angels. Trout tweaked his groin earlier in the week playing against the Brewers.

This will be the second straight game that Trout will miss.

Here’s the Cubs lineup for Friday. Left-hander Cole Hamels faces left-hander Tyler Skaggs. The Angels lefty has only allowed 3 earned runs in 11 innings in his first two starts this season.

So, Albert Almora Jr. back at leadoff and Kyle Schwarber gets another start against a lefty.
