Addison Russell is about to start a minor league assignment and next week the Cubs have the option to keep him in the minors, release him, trade him or activate the infielder after his 40-game suspension for violating MLB’s domestic violence policy.
For some reason Bob Nightengale wrote a redemption article about Russell returning and yes it was as bad as you could have imagined.
Somehow Nightengale and Russell compared his situation with Tiger Woods. A quick reminder for anyone living under a rock.
Wood suffered injuries, was criticized by everyone, went from the best player in golf to an afterthought. Oh, and the decline started after he was exposed for cheating on his wife and the mother of his kids.

Addison Russell was the starting shortstop for the 2016 World Series winning Cubs. He then suffered injuries, was criticized by everyone and eventually lost playing time. Oh, and he was also suspended 40 games by MLB after the league investigated domestic violence accusations from his ex-wife Melisa Reidy.
Hmmm, seems like one situation isn’t exactly the same as the other. Not even close.
Cheating on your wife and then falling from the top of the golfing world and then making it back to the top is in no way comparable to returning from a suspension for domestic violence.
Nevertheless, here’s Bob Nightengale letting Russell slide with this horrendous comparison.
Let’s see how the Cubs PR team is going to spin Russell coming back to the team. And if you think it’s bad enough that Russell is going to be with the Cubs, then get ready for him possibly being handed the starting shortstop job.
