The Cardinals traded for star first baseman Paul Goldschmidt early in the offseason and now a week shy of Opening Day the two sides have reportedly reached an agreement on a five-year contract extension.

The deal will be worth about $130 million.

Goldschmidt, 31, has a career slash line of .297/.398/.532, with 209 home runs in eight MLB seasons. And he has especially killed the Cubs during his time with the Diamondbacks. Check out these ridiculous numbers.

He really loves hitting at Wrigley Field too.

Meanwhile, the Cubs did very little this offseason to upgrade their roster and while teams are signing their players to contract extensions, Kris Bryant says neither him or any of his teammates have heard much or anything about extension talks.

Tom Ricketts decided to tear it all down and bring in a new front office and let them do whatever they wanted. The Cubs won the World Series in 2016 and are still in a position to compete. HOWEVER! It would really suck if he just decided that one title was enough and he just sat back and counted his money.

Let’s hope not, but yet again, Tom is the same dude who said there just wasn’t any more money to spend on the Cubs this offseason. Hopefully he finds some in the next couple years because if not the biggest free agents to hit the market might just all be former Cubs.

All right, yeah, I’m overreacting here, but the patience is running thin for more Cubs fans than just myself.
