Soldier Field Unveiled a Secret Weapon to Foil Rams Offense

-

The Chicago Bears defense was magnificent on Sunday night against the Los Angeles Rams. Here they played an offense that had scored no less than 23 points in any game this season. They had MVP hopeful Todd Gurley at running back and All-Pro Jared Goff under center. Not to mention a Pro Bowler at left tackle in Andrew Whitworth and two really good wide receivers in Brandin Cooks and Robert Woods. To give up six points against that unit? Special. However, they didn’t do it alone. Soldier Field was electric.

Head coach Matt Nagy and several players after the game said it was the loudest the stadium has been in a long time. It was almost impossible to hear when the Rams were on the field. Goff was even caught mouthing that he couldn’t hear anybody in the huddle. It turns out the PA system may have had a hand in that as well.

Throughout the game, the Bears unveiled something new that caught a lot of people by surprise and annoyed much of the media on both sides in the process. They began playing a tornado siren before almost every Rams offensive snap.

Nobody can say the Soldier Field siren didn’t do its job

Many people said the siren was unnecessary but how they can be so sure? If it annoyed people who were just casually watching the game, imagine what it did to the Rams who knew that communication was vital to properly execute their offense? The results speak for themselves: six points allowed, Gurley held to 28 yards, and Goff throws four interceptions. The defense did the heavy lifting, but one can’t say the siren wasn’t a factor.

One thing is for sure. After what happened last night, it’s safe to assume this is not the last we’ve heard of the siren. Especially not with the Green Bay Packers coming to town this week. They will want to see what happens when Aaron Rodgers gets a nice dose of it too.
