Mitch Trubisky Saved the Bears When They Needed Him Most

-

Mitch Trubisky continues to have his critics. That likely won’t change until he reaches a Pro Bowl, wins a Super Bowl or magically transforms into the reincarnation of Peyton Manning. Not that the Chicago Bears care. They feel they have their guy. Teammates have stood by him all year, believing whenever he’s needed that Trubisky would deliver.

Last week wasn’t his best game. That much is obvious. He was high on a ton of his throws and it resulted in three bad interceptions. Most people felt that’s who he is. Others think it was more him being gone for almost three weeks. Either way, the questions started up again. Can this guy ever deliver in a big game?

Everybody got their answer on Sunday. Facing the boogeyman Green Bay Packers, Chicago was trying to exorcize so many demons of the past. Things started well as they took a 14-3 lead at halftime. True to form though, nothing comes easy against that team as Aaron Rodgers quickly tied the game.

Things looked bleak. Memories of that horrible collapse on opening night slipped into the minds of Bears fans everywhere. Then, improbably, Trubisky struck.

Mitch Trubisky concluded a near-flawless performance in epic fashion

As he’s done more often than people care to admit this year, Trubisky got the offense unstuck and drove them down the field with the game in the balance and delivered a perfect throw to Trey Burton for a 13-yard touchdown. That score proved to be the difference in the game as the Packers never managed more than 17.

The numbers may not have been gaudy, but they were still impressive. Trubisky finished with 235 yards on 20-of-28 passing with two touchdowns and no interceptions. That was good for a 120.39 passer rating, easily the best a Bears quarterback has had against the Packers in ages. The fact he was able to do it in a pressure cooker of an atmosphere with the division on the line?

That bodes well both for his and the Bears’ futures.
