Joe Maddon’s Son Is Really Pissed Off At The Cubs

If you’re on Twitter and a Cubs fan then you’ve probably seen Joseph Maddon pop up on your timeline and I have to say, his reviews of Joe Maddon’s ejections are pretty entertaining. However, his dad’s status with the Cubs is no laughing matter, as Theo Epstein said the team won’t negotiate a contract extension with Maddon this offseason.

That doesn’t mean Maddon is done after 2019 in Chicago, but you can tell things have changed since he first arrived. Winning 90+ games and getting to the playoffs isn’t good enough anymore. And that’s not to say that the failure that was the 2018 Cubs season was Maddon’s fault, but the criticism sure has ramped up since winning the World Series.

Despite whatever Maddon’s questionable decisions have been, he has gotten results. He’s the only manager in franchise history to reach the postseason four consecutive years. During his four years as manager, the Cubs have won the most games in MLB and have reached the NLCS three times and you know, won the 2016 World Series.

The most accomplished manager in Cubs history, but we won’t know for sure until after the 2019 season if Maddon will return or not after his initial five-year deal concludes.

Meanwhile, the reason for this is the reaction Maddon’s son had to the Dodgers giving a contract extension to Dave Roberts. Let’s just say Joseph Maddon is a little less than thrilled with his dad not getting an extension this offseason.

He wasn’t done, posting on Instagram as well.

I know the opinion has really shifted on Joe Maddon since the start of 2018, and although he certainly deserves a fair share of criticism, I can’t also throw aside what he’s accomplished with the Cubs. Let’s be real here. If Kris Bryant doesn’t screw up his shoulder in May and Yu Darvish stays healthy, the Cubs easily win the division and then who knows what would have happened in the playoffs.

That being said, if Theo Epstein can enter the final year of his contract without an extension with the Cubs (2016), so can Joe Maddon.

And that’s really the issue here. There won’t be negotiations until next year and hopefully there are because that means the Cubs had a successful 2019 season.

Let’s hope it does work out.
