The Cubs have already made a few moves to begin the offseason, adding a relief pitcher and an outfielder off waivers to the 40-man roster. They’ve also officially picked up a few options on players. First, it was Jose Quintana’s $10.5 million option and now another obvious decision.
On Thursday, the Cubs officially picked up Pedro Strop’s option for 2019, that’s worth $6.25 million.

Just what an unbelievable trade that ended up being for the Cubs. Scott Feldman and Steve Clevenger for Jake Arrieta AND Pedro Strop? Talk about a robbery.
Anyway, here’s another reminder of just how awesome Strop has been with the Cubs, since being dealt to Chicago in 2013.
Strop is the only reliever in Cubs history to post six straight sub-3.00 ERA seasons. He’s also the only one to do it for five straight years.
Overall, Strop has a 2.63 ERA in six years with the Cubs.
So, a no-brainer by the Cubs with Strop and Jason Heyward also with a no-brainer decision on Thursday.
Heyward had the option to opt out of his massive deal, but he obviously let the deadline pass and he’ll be back too.

Heyward still has five years left on his deal, worth $118.5 million. He’ll make $22.5 million in 2019. Heyward had a full no trade clause in his contract from 2016-18, but in 2019-20 that goes to a partial no trade clause.
