It seems like for the past three years, MLB teams have tried to hire important members of the Cubs front office and for the most part the Cubs have retained those people, but eventually you have to think someone will find a perfect spot for a promotion.

If you know anything about the success of this Cubs regime, then you know it’s not just Theo Epstein and Jed Hoyer at the top. Jason McLeod is the Cubs senior vice president of player development and scouting, but he could be getting his first GM job soon.

According to 670 The Score’s Bruce Levine, the Giants seem to be really interested in McLeod for their open GM spot.

The Mets also have an opening at GM, but that entire organization is a disaster. So, I don’t think McLeod wants his first GM job to be there, but maybe the Giants could be his perfect spot?

Via the Sun-Times.

“I’m not actively looking because of how great things are here,” said McLeod, who sat alongside team president Theo Epstein and general manager Jed Hoyer during the fall 2011 news conference introducing them as the Cubs’ new front-office regime.

“But if a team had interest, and it’s the right opportunity, yeah,” McLeod said. “There is a time I do see myself in a situation where I could possibly be running an organization.”

The Twins interviewed McLeod for their GM opening in 2016, but he wasn’t hired and back in 2014, he also interviewed with the Padres, but withdrew because he wanted to stay with the Cubs.

The Cubs have already made a change in their coaching staff, firing Chili Davis and hiring Anthony Iapoca as the new hitting coach. Bench coach Brandon Hyde has interviewed for vacant manager positions, so that could potentially be another coaching change for Joe Maddon.

Now, the Cubs may have to make the biggest change of them all, trying to find a replacement for McLeod if he and the Giants end up being a match.
