Cubs Bench Coach Brandon Hyde Getting A Lot Of Love For Open Manager Positions

-

The Cubs have already made one major change to their coaching staff following a disappointing end to the 2018 season and they might have to make another soon.

Current bench coach Brandon Hyde has already interviewed for two vacant manager positions and according to Jon Morosi, Hyde is considered a candidate for more openings too.

The Angels and Rangers have reportedly interviewed Hyde this month.

And now there’s another report that Hyde is also a candidate for the Twins open managerial position.

Hyde began his coaching career in the Marlins organization, at first in the minors and then got a MLB gig in 2010, as the Marlins bench coach. Hyde stayed in that role for a few years before the Cubs hired him as their bench coach to start the 2014 season under manager Rick Renteria.

Even after Joe Maddon replaced Renteria as the manager, the Cubs kept Hyde, making him the first base coach in 2015. Hyde remained at that position for three seasons and once again received outside interest after 2017. The Mets wanted Hyde as their bench coach, but the Cubs retained him and promoted Hyde back to bench coach for the 2018 season, as Dave Martinez left to be the Nationals manager.

So, his stock is rising around MLB and he is now a serious candidate to be a manager somewhere in 2019.

If Hyde does leave for a manager’s job, the Cubs will once again have an open spot in their coaching staff and who knows, maybe the David Ross whispers start again. He was briefly mentioned as a possible bench coach replacement for Martinez after 2017. The Twins reportedly were interested in Ross for their open managers job this offseason as well.

The Cubs still have not hired a hitting coach to replace Chili Davis, who was let go last week after one year with the club.

CHECK THAT!

The Cubs have hired Chili’s replacement.
