Here’s Why You Should Be Rooting Extra Hard For More Trey Burton Touchdowns

-

Trey Burton only had one catch in his Bears’ debut against the Packers to start the 2018 season, but he picked a great time to get his first touchdown in Chicago.

Before Monday night’s home opener against the Seahawks, Burton pledged to donate $1,000 for every catch he hauled in and $2,500 for every one of his touchdowns to the International Justice Mission, an organization that is trying to put an end to slavery and human trafficking.

Burton, who signed a four-year, $32 million contract with the Bears in the offseason, first got involved with IJM after his rookie year. He attended a conference during which IJM founder Gary Haugen spoke, and some of his stories hit Burton and his wife, Yesenia, “right between the eyes.”

“We felt this is what we were called to do, and this is what we’re going to do,” Burton said. “We have three children. I don’t think anybody believes children should have to suffer this, and on top of that, they prey on the poor. … So we’re going to do our best to raise awareness and funds for it as well.”

On Monday night, Burton caught four passes from Mitch Trubisky and scored the very first touchdown of the game.

So, obviously as Bears fans we’ll be cheering for anyone to score touchdowns, but seeing Burton score will be even more meaningful.

Burton has also been involved with the Philadelphia Children’s Alliance, that promotes healing and justice for victims of child sexual abuse in Philadelphia. You can donate through this link.

Last year as the second tight end with the Eagles, Burton caught 23 passes and scored five touchdowns.

Finally, the Bears also did this.
