Apparently, at some point, there was a massive cache of Indianapolis Colts fans who wanted their team to draft Roquan Smith. Instead the team decided to go with mauler Notre Dame guard Quenton Nelson. Then in the second round, they scooped up South Carolina linebacker Darius Leonard who has proven a quality find thus far through two games. Good for them right. Except apparently, these fans have decided to trash talk Smith.
What? First of all, that itself makes no sense. It’s not like Smith decided not to go to Indianapolis. The Colts didn’t pick him. They could’ve. He was available when they went on the clock. They decided to pass. Yet a lot of people on social media are suddenly treating it like the team dodged some sort of bullet.
Seriously. Just look at some of the snapshots. They’re quite interesting.

Seriously, what did Roquan Smith do to you people to warrant such disrespect?
Leonard has played well thus far with 27 tackles, a sack and a forced fumble. Here’s the thing though. Smith played just eight snaps in his first game before starting on Monday night vs. Seattle. He already has 10 tackles and a sack. He also didn’t benefit from training camp or preseason work like Leonard did. So it might be a tad premature to look down on the #8 overall pick.
It’s great to see the Colts finally drafting well after that Ryan Grigson debacle. Still, people need to stay in their lane. What Chris Ballard did had nothing to do with Smith. This supposed idea that Indianapolis avoided some sort of landmine is foolish and a little bit petty. Be happy with what you have and leave other players who aren’t wearing that uniform alone.
