UFC Fight Night Hits Lincoln As UFC 228 Anticipation Builds

-

Another weekend means another UFC card. UFC Fight Night is being hosted in Lincoln, Neb., with proven names splattered all over the card. The main event has the hype train Justin Gaethje taking on promising fighter James Vick. Every hardcore MMA fan knows who “The Highlight” is.

Considered one of the most dominant World Series of Fighting lightweight champions of all time, Gaethje won six title fights during his reign. All of his WSOF title fight wins came via finish. To put it simply, not only is the guy a NCAA Division-I wrestler who loves to impose his will on opponents, but he is also a walking highlight reel.

The guy pushes the pace and does not stop, which is why he is one of the most feared lightweight contenders.

His opponent, Vick, sports a 13-1 professional record and was also a contestant on the first season of The Ultimate Fighter. Vick has basically been a journeyman fighter his entire career, but he is entering this bout with a certain level of confidence as Gaethje has dropped his last two bouts against Dustin Poirer and Eddie Alvarez. There has been a lot of trash talk going on between these two, but the tale of the tape will be whether Vick will be able to sustain Gaethje’s pace for five rounds.

(How fitting)

The Co-Main Event has Georges St. Pierre’s No.1 pick in The Ultimate Fighter, Michael Johnson, going up against the Team Alpha Male product, Andre Fili. Johnson is coming off three straight losses against top notch opponents so its obvious he’s coming into this fight with a chip on his shoulder. Fill, on the other hand, is coming off two successful outings against Conor McGregor’s teammate, Artem Lobov and Dennis Bermudez.

Fili would love to add Michael Johnson’s name to his resume while Michael Johnson is looking for a solid bounce back win.

There are a lot of other great fights on the card such as The Ultimate Fighter veteran, Angela Hill, taking on the No. 11-ranked contender in the women’s flyweight division. UFC veteran Jake Ellenberger is also featured on this card.

UFC Fight Night Nebraska features a lot of proven names that could shake up the UFC. Certain guys are trying to get a grip of their professional careers while others are a fight away from reaching that other level. All this and more this Saturday on FS1 and Fight Pass, beginning at 3:30 p.m. PST on UFC’s “Fight Pass. The FOX Sports 1 “Prelims” undercard telecast begins at 5 p.m. PST. The main card is expected top start at 7 p.m. PST, also on FS1.
