The path back to pitching for the Chicago Cubs has been slow, but the pace has picked up over the last two weeks for Yu Darvish. He pitched in a simulated game Wednesday, facing Tommy La Stella and Victor Caratini, and all seemed to be progressing.
The thing is, everything still appears to be going as planned after that Wednesday simulated game, as Darvish is scheduled to pitch another one on Tuesday.
However, Darvish was originally scheduled to pitch Sunday, or at least that was what was said to the media.
The Cubs have mostly good news regarding their walking wounded though they are still taking it slow with all of them. Yu Darvish (elbow) will throw a 2nd simulated game on Sunday while closer Brandon Morrow (biceps) is scheduled to throw again after… https://t.co/km9ipGnRO8

Update on #Cubs Darvish: He will throw another live BP on Tuesday (not Sunday)

Maybe it’s nothing and the change was simply a miscommunication, but I guess that simulated game on Tuesday becomes a little more important now for Darvish?
The good thing is that Darvish has been pain free for the last two weeks and Joe Maddon said he was throwing “free and easy” on Wednesday. So, let’s hope this little push back is nothing to actually be worried about and more of setting up his return for a specific date or something.
Anyway, if all goes well Tuesday then the conservative timeline for Darvish’s return remains during the first week of September. And that’s really what the target date seems to be for closer Brandon Morrow and Kris Bryant too, who are recovering from a biceps and shoulder injury, respectively.
