Right now it’s a long shot that Terrance Gore will be the last guy on the 25-man roster for the Chicago Cubs in the playoffs, but if the team makes it to the postseason and decides to put him on it you know exactly when he’ll be used.

On Wednesday, the Cubs traded for Gore, sending cash to the Kansas City Royals and you don’t need to know much of an expert to figure out what skill set he has.

Gore, 27, has been at Triple-A all of 2018, and is heading there for the Cubs until rosters expand on Sept. 1. In 49 career games spread over four seasons with the Royals, he has 21 stolen bases, caught only four times. He only has 11 career MLB at-bats and still doesn’t have a hit, so yeah, the Cubs basically got him to be Dave Roberts.

Down in the minors, Gore has 288 stolen bases, only caught 31 times. That’s good for a 90 percent success rate. He has a career .241/.336/.276 slash line in the minors and in 2018 at Triple-A with the Royals, he was at .211/.304/.254.

Last year the Cubs traded for outfielder Leonys Martin and he was a surprise addition to the NLDS playoff roster. Back in 2015, the Cubs traded for Austin Jackson on August 31, and he eventually made the playoff roster along with Quintin Berry, who signed a minor league deal with the Cubs that August too. Berry was on the Wild Card Game roster against the Pittsburgh Pirates and eventually made it on the NLCS roster, replacing the injured Addison Russell that season.

So, who knows, maybe Gore could be another surprise addition in the postseason.
