Javier Baez Continues To Strengthen His MVP Case

-

Javier Baez is making a serious case to be in MVP talks and he strengthened that case Sunday against the San Diego Padres.

There are several factors that go into voting, but Baez is doing his best to make a valid argument as to why he should be considered. No, Baez doesn’t have a high OBP, but everything else he does great. From hitting for power, to running the bases and playing great defense.

That includes making highlight reel plays and of course being the best tagger in baseball. During Sunday’s game against the Padres Baez flashed his quick hands once again.

Obviously you can’t not mention the awesome throw by fellow All-Star starter Willson Contreras, who is also having another good season, while making amazing plays on defense too.

The highlight reel plays aren’t the only things Baez is good at. He also got the Cubs on the scoreboard in the first, with an RBI-single. Baez now leads the entire National League with 72 RBIs.

And the thing is, Baez gets even better in the second half of the season. Last year Baez slashed .291/.340/.511, with 13 home runs in 227 at-bats following the all-star break.

So, just have to keep accumulating the counting stats for Baez to have a serious case for MVP, but being El Mago on the field definitely helps getting more attention too.
