VIDEO: Lucas Giolito’s 2nd Inning Against The Astros Was A Scene From The Movie Major League

-

Lucas Giolito had a start to forget Saturday, pitching against the Houston Astros. It was so bad that in the second inning, Giolito did his best Ricky Vaughn impression from “Major League” and basically gave Chicago White Sox fans a live remake of a scene from the classic baseball movie.

If you don’t know what “Major League” is then I don’t know what to tell you. Google it, watch it, it’s awesome.

Anyway, Giolito couldn’t find the plate to save his life against Houston, walking seven batters in his two-inning outing. That included walking the first three hitters in the second inning to load the bases for Josh Reddick.

On the very first pitch, Reddick hit a high-towering blast for a grand slam and that caught the eye of an Astros fan on Twitter. The three straight walks followed by the first-pitch grand slam was exactly what happened in “Major League” as Charlie Sheen’s character Ricky Vaughn walked three batters on 12 consecutive balls before giving up a grand slam.

Giolito didn’t throw 12 straight out of the strike zone and this wasn’t his MLB debut, but boy did this make for a pretty good video.

It was the ugliest start by far for Giolito, who also started the third inning by walking the first two batters and was then taken out by manager Ricky Renteria.

There’s no doubt that Giolito has nasty stuff, but the 23-year-old still hasn’t been able to command his pitches in 2018. He’s walked at least three hitters in each of his first four starts this season. That’s 19 walks in 20 innings.

Not ideal.
