Principal Catches Student Skipping School At Wrigley And Has The Best Response

-

Talk about a small world.

When fourth grader Tucker Steckman’s parents called him in absent to school so he could attend the Cubs game today, they thought nothing of it. There probably wasn’t anything important going on in school that Tucker had to be there so what’s the harm in calling him in sick so the family could travel into Chicago to catch the home opener?

The problem was Tucker’s principal was also at the game.

Tucker getting busted by his principal could have been avoided but his parents thought it’d be a good idea to commemorate his ditch day with a clever sign. This is not a knock on Tucker’s parents because the sign is pretty goddamn funny to me.

The MLB Twitter account must have thought the sign was pretty goddamn funny as well because they tweeted it out to their 8.3 million followers and unknowingly put Tucker in some pretty hot water when his principal saw the tweet while he was at the game.

Neither Tucker or his parents thought anything of the fourth grader missing school because lets face it — if your parents call you into school sick to catch a Cubs game they are pretty much the coolest parents in the world. What Tucker didn’t expect, however, was to run into the principal of his school in East Moline inside of Wrigley Field.

Principal Pat Versluis was on the same page as Tucker and decided to play hooky from work and attend the game with his son Aiden, who’s a year older than Tucker. Versluis saw the sign on Twitter and realized that he and Tucker were on a collision course of a very awkward meeting.

“I saw him and I was kind of ducking down,” Versluis said with a laugh during a cell phone call from inside Wrigley Field.

Eventually the student and Principal got together for a picture to commemorate the hilarious occasion. What’s better is Versluis’ response when he was asked his thoughts on catching one of his students’ skipping a day of school.

“It’s all good. Doesn’t bother me. He’s a great kid. He was student leader of the year. I thought the sign was hilarious.”

Principal Versluis — from every person who’s ever acted like an asshole in school we thank you for not being a jerk of a principal and understanding that a Cubs game may take precedence over a boring day in school every now and then.

You’re the real MVP, Pat.
