Vic Fangio calls out Bryzzo to get their bats in gear

Most of his press conference ahead of the trip to Baltimore was straightforward. He discussed the ongoing issues with his defense regarding takeaways. Also he called out the officiating crew from Monday night for being terrible. In so many words of course. Right as he was about to wrap up though he was asked his thoughts on Game 5 and what the Cubs had to do to win.

His answer certainly didn’t lack subtlety.

Combined the two Cubs All-Stars are 7-of-30 at the plate against the Washington pitchers in four games. That is batting a meager .233. It’s little wonder the Cubs offense hasn’t been able to score runs. That tends to happen when their two best bats are silent. This has remained a recurring problem for them all season. The bats tend to go cold from time to time.

Not exactly the ideal circumstances for that to happen. Granted the Nationals pitch staff deserves credit. It’s one of the best in baseball. Still to win in the postseason the star players need to be at their best. This game represents possibly the last chance for Bryant and Rizzo to do that. Fangio has every right to call them out because it’s the truth.

That’s kind of his thing. Hopefully his streak of good fortune holds out into the next round.
