Veteran NFL Receiver Watched One Series and Knew Trubisky Was For Real

-

Nate Burleson was convinced Trubisky had “it” after one series

Like most of the country Burleson was tuned in for Monday Night Football to see him play. The morning after he appeared on his weekly NFL Network program “Good Morning Football” to discuss his impressions. They were almost universally positive.

One series. That’s all he needed to realize the Bears have something cooking at quarterback for the first time in decades. Like everybody else he saw the obvious problems. Most notably the total lack of proper receiving weapons on the roster. That is something GM Ryan Pace is certain to correct going into next off-season.

Yet even without proper weapons Trubisky found a way to have an impact. Perhaps the throw that showed everybody he was for real was the one that didn’t count. It came in the second quarter on a 1st and 17. Trubisky rolled out to his right and fired a pass on a dead run 35-yards to Tre McBride who was covered well by covered by Terence Newman. The ball got just over the head of Newman and hit McBride square in the hands.

It’s one of those “WOW” throws that the best quarterbacks can deliver from time to time. Unfortunately McBride was called for offensive pass interference. Nobody will remember it save for this video. However Burleson knows what he saw. Get some proper receivers in place and those big plays will start to happen.

Then the Bears will be a team that the rest of the league can’t ignore.
