Brian Urlacher Drops Bombshell About Bears Drafting of Trubisky

-

Brian Urlacher reopens the Bears draft divide on the Trubisky pick

A few months ago Chris Mortensen of ESPN revealed that Bears head coach John Fox was unaware of the intent to draft Mitch Trubisky right up until a couple hours before it happened. This led to all sorts of speculation about a disconnect between him and GM Ryan Pace. Well according to Urlacher there’s been word on the street that the initial plan wasn’t to draft a quarterback at all.

Wow. Understand that Urlacher is a well-connected player. Of course he’s not an investigative journalist with flawless sources. Still rumors he hears can be taken with a little more seriousness than other common folk. For him to say they wanted to draft a safety but ownership intervened and said take Trubisky? That would seem to back up some of what Mortensen said months ago.

This isn’t the first time an ownership intervened in such matters. Back in 2008 Steve Bisciotti of the Baltimore Ravens all but demanded that his team move up to draft Joe Flacco. Two years earlier Bud Adams forced his Tennessee Titans to select Vince Young. This isn’t exactly breaking new ground.

Still, considering the possibility that the Bears brass put their foot down on the matter opens all sorts of questions about the future. Just imagine if they had taken a safety and rolled with Mike Glennon. Feel that chill running down the spine? If nothing else this revelation, if true, supports the growing belief that John Fox is gone next year.
