I feel like I’ve written 1,000 stories on Anthony Rizzo’s generosity when it comes to his work fighting childhood cancer and ya know what?

It never gets old talking about it so here’s story 1,001.

Earlier today, the Cubs first baseman delivered on a promise that he made back in May that he would donate $3.5 million to Lurie Children’s hospital. Part of the ceremony was unveiling the “Rizzo Family Waiting Room” on the 18th floor of the hospital which was highlighted by a special ribbon cutting ceremony. It was after the ribbon was cut that Rizzo started to speak and became overrun by emotion.

“I remember sitting with my mom saying we were going to do this 10 years ago. And it’s just a little step toward our mission,” the Cubs first baseman said.

Everyone knows Rizzo beat cancer back in 2008 and has since dedicated a ton of time helping the families of children with cancer both financially and emotionally.

As it turns out, today was a day that Rizzo himself needed some emotional support.

I know it goes without saying but if you ever root against Anthony Rizzo, you’re probably not a very good person.
