By the end of the second inning, the Cincinnati Reds had a 9-0 lead and Chicago Cubs pitcher Jon Lester was out of the ballgame. Still not clear if Lester has an injury, but he asked for the trainer after an RBI-double that put the Reds up 8-0 at the time.

Lester gave up nine total runs, seven of them earned, but really it was one of the unluckiest innings of the season for a pitcher, as the Reds kept getting hits on soft contact. Slow ground balls and bloopers found the outfield grass and in a blink of an eye the Cubs were down big.

Hopefully there’s nothing seriously wrong with Lester.

One observer on Twitter made a good point and noticed Lester and the trainer looking at his left hand. Possible blister.

Lester threw 40 pitches in the second inning after only needing six to retire the side in order in the top of the first.

UPDATE:

Jon Lester left because of lat tightness, which isn’t good news at all.
