The Chicago White Sox placed Miguel Gonzalez on the DL Sunday morning with A/C joint inflammation (Acromioclavicular). James Shields was activated in Gonzalez spot.

Gonzalez owns a 5.49 earned run average spread over 13 starts. He has been a stalwart in a White Sox rotation that has suffered an unusual amount of injuries in 2017. The right-hander is the fourth starter to land on the DL this season.

Shields joins the rotation on Sunday making his first start since April 16 and hopes to resume his resurgent campaign. In only three starts Shields is running a 1.62 ERA over 16 2/3 innings pitched. If Shields can return to form the White Sox may try to deal the veteran at the trade deadline.
