Former Bears Linebacker Arrested and Charged In Shooting

-

Most Chicago Bears fans probably have just a passing memory of the name Khaseem Greene. A linebacker drafted by the team during the Phil Emery era, it was hoped the Rutgers alum might end up being the eventual heir apparent to Lance Briggs at the outside linebacker position. It never played out that way. He lacked certain qualities that made up a starter in the NFL and was relegated to backup and special teams duties.

Since then he’s spent his time as a journeyman around the league. Most recently he was with the Kansas City Chiefs. Now that is over and his entire career may soon follow. ESPN and other outlets reported that the former fourth round pick of the Bears was a potential primary suspect in an ugly shooting incident.

“A linebacker in the NFL who starred at Rutgers University has been charged in connection with a shooting in New Jersey.

A grand jury indicted Khaseem Greene for weapon possession on Tuesday in a December shooting in Elizabeth, where Greene is from.

The Kansas City Chiefs released the linebacker on Tuesday. Greene signed with the team in January. His lawyer wasn’t immediately available for comment.

NJ.com reports a criminal complaint says Greene was seen on camera handing a gun to another man who fired into a crowd.”

Further details on the incident and the charges are still to come. Rest assured it will be interesting to see how it all develops.
