Will Wrigley Be Ready For The Cubs Home Opener?

-

With the home opener five days away, there have been whispers that Wrigley Field may not be ready for baseball on April 10th. I mean, this is what it looked like a week ago from today.

Yes, that’s dirt in the outfield.

Immediately following the 2016 postseason, construction crews got back to work on the $550 million, multiyear 1060 Project which was geared at renovating not only Wrigley Field, but the Wrigleyville neighborhood as well.

The major focal point at this point of the construction plan was the addition of an exclusive club called the American Airline 1914 Club. The club will be the first of four and is set to begin service by Opening Day NEXT YEAR and will be located behind home plate. The three other clubs are expected to open by 2020.

The other major aspect of the field that will change is moving both bullpens from down the lines to underneath the bleachers in the outfield. Cubs brass have said that the completion of the bullpens will be ready for the April 10th opener.

If you’re judging based off this picture that was taken four days, it appears the bullpens have fully been moved off the lines.

While the above picture looks like Wrigley is ready to rock and roll, it’s a bit deceiving seeing that the field wasn’t even fully sodded until April 2nd, just three days ago.

Cubs fans minds can rest a little bit better tonight thanks to a new video that was released by WGN-TV. The video lasts a little over a minute and shows a Wrigley Field that should be fully ready by next Monday (bullpens included).

Check it out.
