Yoan Moncada Starting To Set Spring Training On Fire

-

White Sox prized second base prospect Yoan Moncada had a slow start to Spring Training for all the hype he has been receiving. His numbers were not terrible per say, but there was definitely room for improvement. White Sox fans have now been seeing that improvement as of late, and especially the last week.

In Yoan Moncada’s last 7 games, he has gone 10-22 (.455), hit 4 Doubles, 3 HR, and delivered 11 RBI, 23 Total Bases (1.045 SLG).

After a home run, 2 doubles, and 4 RBI’s today, he owns a spring slash line of .317/.391/.683 (46 plate appearances). His 13 RBI’s are good for a share of the AL lead, and second in the majors overall. If you project the numbers from a full season, (roughly 700 plate appearances) you’re looking at a 21 year old kid with 30 home run, 30 double, 100+ RBI potential. And those are just the power numbers. Remember, Moncada is said to have the ability to steal 30 bags a year as well.

It seems that Moncada is finally getting into a groove with his new team, and should only continue to get better. This kid has a ceiling of an All-Star/MVP and a pretty high floor as well. Perhaps the most exciting thing about Moncada’s spring is that he is doing it against MLB pitchers. While it has been and will continue to be encouraging to see him dominate Triple-A, it is nice knowing that he can still have a game-changing impact against MLB pitchers.

Yes, it is only Spring Training, and yes, it might still be March, but if the last week is any preview of what Moncada will turn out to be, then White Sox fans are in for an absolute treat.
