Earlier yesterday it was announced that Mark Buehrle will have his number retired at Guaranteed Rate Field on June 24th.

If we are being completely honest, I’ve never really even thought about Mark getting his number 56 enshrined in White Sox lore; however, looking back, one could argue that he is a Top 5 player in White Sox history. His stuff was never electric, or made people gasp. Instead, he consistently hit his spots, worked incredibly fast on the mound, and played exceptional defense.
Getting his number retired is something Buehrle absolutely deserves. Looking back at his career in Chicago, it is easy to see why he was beloved by so many.

Without further ado, here is the top 5 Mark Buehrle moments on the South Side.
5) Between The Legs
Coming in at No. 5 on our list, is a play that most pitchers could only make in their wildest dreams.
On Opening Day in 2010, the White Sox were going head-to-head with their division rival, Cleveland Indians. In the top of the 5th, Buehrle took a screaming come-backer off of his leg, sending the ball down the first base line and into foul territory. Instead of Buehrle assuming the baserunner would be safe, he charged down the ball, and… well, see for yourself…
How Buehrle made this play look so effortless is beyond me. Between him chasing it down after taking a line drive off of his leg, flipping it between his legs to Paul Konerko without even looking, and avoiding making contact with the baserunner, this is truly a defensive play for the ages.
Konerko bare-handing the ball just puts the icing on the cake.
