The Chicago Cubs and Jake Arrieta have agreed to a one-year deal, avoiding an arbitration hearing for the 2015 Cy Young winner and 2016 World Series champion.

Arrieta, 30, will be a free agent after the 2017 season. After making a little more than $10 million last year, Arrieta gets another raise, agreeing to a $15.6375 million salary for the upcoming season, according to Jon Heyman.

Since Arrieta was traded to the Cubs from the Baltimore Orioles in 2013, the right-handed pitcher has gone 54-21, with a 2.52 ERA over 98 starts.
