If all works out, Chicago Blackhawks goaltender Corey Crawford could return exactly 20 days after undergoing an emergency appendectomy on Dec. 3.

Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville said Crawford could return Friday, Dec. 23, when the Blackhawks host the Colorado Avalanche, per the Chicago Tribune’s Chris Hine.

Crawford skated in Chicago during the team’s three-game road trip last week and also skated Sunday. He’ll also take the ice on Monday, but Quenneville said he’d like to see Crawford participate in a full practice before making a start.

Scott Darling had started the past eight games in relief of Crawford and also took the crease for Sunday night’s matchup with the San Jose Sharks. The Hawks have gone 5-2-1 in those eight games and Darling has one shutout on his resume.
