Cy Young Award Winners Battle Tonight In The Bay Area

111

It’s a first-place battle tonight in the Bay Area as the Chicago Cubs, who own the best record in the Majors, travel to San Francisco to take on the NL West-leading Giants, who come into tonight’s game on an eight-game winning streak.

Reigning Cy Young Award winner Jake Arrieta will look to halt the Giants’ momentum tonight at AT&T Park. Arrieta, who enters tonight’s game with the game’s lowest ERA (1.29) was dominant against San Francisco a season ago, allowing just one unearned run over 13 2/3 innings in two starts.

The Giants will send their own Cy Young winner to the mound tonight in the form of 2007 winner Jake Peavy. Peavy obviously isn’t the same pitcher he used to be and has struggled this season, sporting a 1-4 record with a 7.43 ERA. He did pitch well in his most recent outing, giving up just one run in six innings in a no-decision against the Arizona Diamondbacks last Saturday.

Here’s everything else you need to know about tonight’s series opener.
