After a day off on Monday, the Chicago Cubs take the Majors’ best record on the road for the next nine games and it all begins tonight at Milwaukee’s Miller Park, better known to many Cubs fans as “Wrigley Field North”. With not a lot of hope on the horizon for the Brew Crew in the very tough National League Central, expect to see a lot of Cubbie blue in the crowd during this series. It’s not uncommon for many Chicago folks to make the quick drive up I-94 to cheer on the Cubs and I’m expecting no different over the next three days.
It doesn’t help the Brewers by any means that Kyle Hendricks will open the series for the North Siders, seeing as he owns the best active ERA of any pitcher in baseball against the Brewers at 1.49. The 26-year-old right-hander is 4-1 in seven career starts against Milwaukee with three scoreless outing attributing to that low earned run average. Tonight’s Brewers lineup has gone a combined 7-47 (.149) against Hendricks.
The Brewers will counter with 28-year-old right-hander Chase Anderson, who got off to a great start this season, not allowing a run in his first two outings, but has been roughed up a bit as of late, allowing 24 runs in 24 1/3 innings over his last five starts which have all been losses.
The Cubs come into tonight’s game with a 13-3 record on the road, which amounts to a an .813 winning percentage, which is actually better than their home record of 14-6 (.700).
