After a day off on Tuesday, the first-place Chicago Cubs get back to work tonight at Wrigley Field as they resume their three-game set with the Cincinnati Reds. John Lackey is set to take the mound for the North Siders tonight and is hoping that some of the success he’s had in his career against the Reds carries over into 2016. In nine career starts against Cincinnati, Lackey has a 3-2 record with a 2.75 ERA and one of those losses came in an outing last July as a member of the Cardinals when he went eight strong innings and gave up only one run, which happened to be the only run of the game in a 1-0 loss. If I were a betting man, I’d say that it’s likely that Lackey would get a win tonight if he gave up only one run in eight innings.
However, Reds right-hander Alfredo Simon has a 1.66 career ERA against the Cubs, including winning three games against them in 2014 alone. However, Chicago’s 2014 lineup looked a little different than it does this season.
We’ll see how everything plays out in a few hours. Here’s what you need to know about tonight’s matchup.
