Baseball’s Best And Worst Meet Today At Wrigley Field

230

The Chicago Cubs bring baseball’s best record (16-5) to Wrigley Field today to start a three-game weekend series with the Atlanta Braves, who hold the unfortunate title of the team with baseball’s worst record (5-17).

Jon Lester takes the mound today for the North Siders, looking for his first win of the year at the Friendly Confines. He’s pitched well at home thus far in 2016, giving up only four earned runs in 13 1/3 innings. Lester had a solid performance in his most recent outing a week ago against the Reds, throwing seven innings of one-run baseball in the Cubs’ 8-1 win.

The Braves will counter today with rookie Aaron Blair, who’ll be making only the second start of his young career. He took the loss in his Major League debut against the New York Mets on Sunday after allowing three earned runs in 5 1/3 innings.

Here’s what you need to know about today’s series opener.
