Referees are known to take some abuse from time to time, but it’s usually just a verbal lashing from a coach or a player after calling a penalty. Well, for Dominic Bedard, a referee in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, he took a special kind of abuse in a recent game between the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies and the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada.
During the game, Bedard called a roughing penalty on Huskies’ Francis Perron. Okay, no big deal. Penalties get called all the time. However, this particular call did not sit well with Perron’s brother, Alexandre, who was sitting in the stands. But instead of just standing up and yelling like any normal hockey fan would do, he went a different way and fired a nearly full beer can at Bedard, which strike him right in the….well, just take a look.
Bedard would leave the game but would return…you know, because he’s a hockey ref. As for Alexandre Perron, he was not only ejected from the arena but also arrested and there is a possibility he could face assault charges. And let’s not dismiss what a lot of you are thinking right now. Perron also deserves a harsh reprimand for wasting a full beer, am I right?
