[icon name=icon-bolt] VIRAL - In recent weeks, it had been rumored that the White Sox may be interested in trading for Oakland A’s and former Cubs ace Jeff Samardzija in order to acquire a right-handed power arm behind Chris Sale. As of Tuesday morning, those rumors have come true as Jeff Samardzija is officially heading back to Chicago.
After being dealt by the Cubs to the A’s last season, Samardzija posted a 5-6 record to go along with a 3.14 ERA. In 2014 combined, Samardzija posted a 2.99 ERA and an impressive 202 strikeouts.
The White Sox appear set to send Marcus Semien, Chris Bassit, and a third player over to the A’s in what is an extremely low price for a front-line starter:
A third player also likely to be in that deal for Samardzija, source tells the Chronicle. So Bassitt, Semien, third player to #Athletics.

He will be a welcome addition to a Sox rotation that is in desperate need of a right-handed pitcher and the 1-2 punch of Sale and Samardzija will rank up there as one of the best in the MLB. In addition to Jose Quintana, this should give the White Sox a rotation that will allow them to compete for the AL Central title.
While the deal brings hope to Sox fans this season, Samardzija is likely only a one-year rental as he is a free agent in 2015. It’s still an exciting time to be a White Sox fan as this, along with the Robertson signing, have made the White Sox instant contenders.
