2015 Winter Classic to be Held at National’s Park

NHL Winter Classic

According to the Washinton Post, a deal has been finalized, and an agreement has been reached for National’s Park to host the 2015 Winter Classic between the Washington Capitals and the Chicago Blackhawks. The event had been widely assumed to be held at this location on New Years’ Day, but as of a few months ago, there were still a few hurdles to jump.

No timetable has been set for the official announcement, but some sources say that it will be before the end of the month. The Blackhawks will hold training camp at Compton Family Ice Arena (100 Compton Family Ice Arena, Notre Dame, IN) from 10:15 a.m. to 12:40 p.m. ET on Saturday, Sept. 20, and Sunday, Sept. 21. Doors will open at 9:30 a.m. ET each day. Complimentary parking will be available in all of the adjacent Notre Dame parking lots.

This will be the Blackhawks third Winter Classic appearance. They will be coming off of a 5-1 victory last season against the Pittsburgh Penguins.  This matchup marks the first inter-conference Winter Classic; the Capitals and Blackhawks have split eight meetings over the past four seasons.
