Chicago Bears tight end Zach Miller had a great preseason game against the Eagles and has started to make a name for himself in the Windy City. After winning ‘Player of the Game’ with 6 receptions for 68 yards and two touchdowns, Miller has gotten a lot of media attention. Most people are trying to figure out who he is and if he can have a sustained impact on this team, we’re going to take a look at the numbers behind his success.
Ranked As #3 Overall Tight End
Currently, Zach Miller ranks as the #3 overall tight end according to Pro Football Focus. This is based on the overall grading through the first wave of NFL preseason games.
It gets better though, here’s a couple other small things Miller did very well.
First off, he caught every single ball thrown to him … his ‘percentage caught’ currently sits at 100%.
Secondly, boy got himself some YAC (yards after catch) … currently ranks #4 for YAC amongst tight ends in the 2014 preseason.
Finally, Miller got to pay dirt twice. Zach Miller is the only tight end in the NFL with 2 TDs so far …. only four others have one score.
Small Sample Size, But Still Impressive
Everyone is aware this is an extremely small sample size by Miller, but after the recent suspension of Martellus Bennett it’s nice to see another tight end stepping up. Something to note about that sample size, Miller only played 21 snaps which currently ranks him #52 amongst tight ends… he’s made quite the impression when he’s had the opportunity, to say the least.
Miller, a 6th round draft pick by the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2009, is a former quarterback turned tight end out of Nebraska-Omaha….all eyes will be on him when the Bears play the Jaguars in week 2 of the preseason.
