The move clears space on the 25-man-roster for Adam Eaton’s return from the disabled list. Eaton has been on the DL since August 9th with an oblique strain. While the move was expected from the Pale Hose, there’s still no word on who will be added to the 40-man roster. Teams expand rosters September 1st, so this is an interesting decision.
It certainly won’t be Nate Jones, who underwent Tommy John surgery at the start of the month. It’s also unlikely Felipe Paulino will be reinstated from the 60-day DL. Paulino was expected to be out indefinitely since experiencing shoulder issues during a rehab assignment in May.
Most fans expect the team to bring on Carlos Rodon and see what the man is capable of. However, his role with the team would be undetermined until announced, and moving a prospect up that quickly could have some adverse affects for him.
Another possibility is that the team moves Tim Anderson to the roster, getting a glimpse at life after Alexei Ramirez. Anderson is still with AA Birmingham, but is the 10th ranked shortstop prospect in the MLB.
