Starlin Castro Rejoins Cubs Tuesday

Starlin Castro provided the big hit today as the Chicago Cubs were able to defeat the Mets in New York City. Castro belted his 13th home run of the season in the top of the ninth inning to lift the Cubs over Mets in a 2-1 victory. The other Cubs run was provided by Javier Baez when he was driven in by Luis Valbuena in the top of the fourth inning.

The Mets rallied in the 8th inning to tie the game when Curtis Granderson singled in Eric Young Jr. on just the fourth hit surrendered all game by Cubs pitching.

Arrieta’s Quality Start

Speaking of pitching, both starters, the Cubs Jake Arrieta and the Mets Rafael Montero, pitched well enough to win, but settled for no decisions. Arrieta delivered another strong performance as he two-hit the Mets over seven innings.  He struck out nine while only walking two.  Arrieta now holds a 2.61 ERA on the season, and has developed into a solid pitcher for a team that lacks a true staff ace.

The Cubs will turn to rookie pitcher Kyle Hendricks to try and even the series against Mets veteran Bartolo Colon.
