Starlin Castro Rejoins Cubs Tuesday

Starlin Castro will be back in the Cubs lineup tuesday in Cincinnati against the Reds. Castro has been on the bereavement list since last week after the news of a deadly car accident claimed the lives of several people including a relative of Castro’s in the Dominican Republic. He has been out the last five games for the Cubs, after playing in every game up to that point this season.

With Starlin Castro back, the Cubs have optioned infielder Logan Watkins to Triple-A Iowa. Watkins played in 4 games while Starlin was gone, hitting .300 with 1 run scored and 3 RBI’s. On saturday, he went 2-4 with 2 RBI’s.

Starlin Castro now returns to a team that just swept the AL East leading Baltimore Orioles, due in part to some outstanding pitching performances from Jake Arrieta, Kyle Hendricks, and Tsuyoshi Wada.

Castro is hitting .284 with 13 home runs and 64 RBIs this season. Travis Wood (7-11, 4.91 ERA) and Johnny Cueto (15-7, 2.20 ERA) are the starters for Tuesday’s contest.
