Crain’s Chicago Business reports that Soldier Field will be home to the 2015 Coyote Hockey City Classic on February 7th. The event will feature a doubleheader with the University of Michigan vs. Michigan State University and Miami University vs. Western Michigan University.

This marks the third annual Hockey City Classic where in 2013 the inaugural series was held at Solider Field and drew an estimated 52,000 fans. 2014’s Classic was held at TCF Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, which is home to the Minnesota Golphers.

The Chicago-based company Intersport, felt that bringing the games back home was the right move.

“Obviously we felt we had a very successful run in 2013,” said Drew Russell, Intersport’s vice president of properties. “We felt that year off from (Chicago) was important just so the event continues to be a novel concept.”

The 2015 games will begin with an opening ceremony of February 5th and after the hockey game on the 7th, there will be about 10 days of ice time for the public, corporate partners, hockey clinics and exhibition matches.

Hockey is a big hit at Solider Field and whether it’s the Chicago Blackhawks or college hockey, it gives fans a special opportunity to catch a game outside at a unique venue.

Tickets for the event go on sale in October and can be purchased through
