Billionaire’s Son is the Latest Notre Dame Football Recruit

Nicco Fertitta, Notre Dame

Notre Dame football is a tradition like any other. Generations upon generations of families have attended. Former athlete’s sons have put on the golden helmet, and ran out of the tunnel in South Bend. Rarely do you find the athlete that comes from the wealth and fame that Nicco Fertitta comes from, though.

Nicco Fertitta is one of the more recent Notre Dame football recruits. His name may not be recognizable to some, but most fans of MMA will make the correlation right away. Fertitta’s father, Lorenzo Fertitta, is part owner of Zuffa, which is the parent company for the UFC. Lorenzo and his brother, Frank Fertitta, also own Station Casinos, and most recently have entered the multi-billion dollar entity that is online poker.

Not Just a Name

Nicco Fertitta is not your every day Notre Dame football recruit. However, he did not get into Notre Dame with an under the table handout, or an intimidating threat. He got offered because he is damn good at football.

Bishop Gorman is a powerhouse program in the Las Vegas area. Fertitta, a safety, helped the Gaels win the past three State Championships. BGHS has won a state tile in six of their last seven seasons. Bishop Gorman will begin the season as the number one team in the nation.

Football is in Family’s Blood

The football field at Bishop Gorman HS is named after Nicco’s grandfather, Frank Fertitta II. Nicco’s brother, Lorenzo Jr., is a red-shirt freshman at Villanova, and is listed as a defensive back.
