Illinois has been busy in the Class of 2015, targeting some of the top players in the country. The team also has two players already committed: D.J. Williams and Aaron Jordan. The two are easily, but foolishly, overlooked because of all the hype surrounding the rest of Illinois’ targets.
Both players have planned their official visits to Illinois.
D.J. Williams, a small forward from Simeon, will be visiting Illinois on the weekend of October 25th. It’s homecoming weekend for the Fighting Illini and the football team will be taking on Minnesota.
“The Simeon (Ill.) product was a quality early pickup for John Groce and the Fighting Illini. He can score in different ways, especially off the mid-range or in transition. He’s not a volume 3-point shooter, but he has range on his jumper. Williams could have a chance to get major minutes right off the bat in Champaign, as Rayvonte Rice will be gone by the time Williams arrives. The Illini will be counting on Williams for points.” – Jeff Borzello, College Basketball Writer, CBS Sports
Aaron Jordan, a shooting guard from Plainfield, Illinois, will be visiting Illinois on the weekend of November 15th. The football team will be taking on Iowa that weekend.
What Illini nation will grow to love about Jordan is his desire to improve. He’s constantly working on making his game better, and scouts took notice this summer. You can check out his 38-point AAU performance HERE. At the time of that game he was ranked 168th by 247. He’s currently ranked 84th in the 247 Composite and is now a consensus top-100 recruit.
Major Recruiting Impact
By verbally committing early in the recruiting process, these two have allowed John Groce and company to focus their efforts on a point guard and a big man. The result is an impressive lineup of official visits from multiple top 100 players.
Things kick off on the weekend of August 29th when Jalen Brunson comes to Champaign. In the following weeks Jawun Evans, Jimmy Whitt, and Elijah Thomas will visit. The final weekend of September is currently open, possibly for Doral Moore, the 7-foot Center from Georgia. Next, Shake Milton comes to town on October 3rd-5th.
There are still weekends left open in October and November for John Groce to schedule official visits for other Fighting Illini targets.
