The Daily Grind: Chicago’s Guide to Handicapping Baseball (8/28/14)

Yesterday was another tough day.  Good pitchers are getting shelled this week and gas can pitchers are throwing gems.  It happens over the course of a 162 game schedule.  It is a marathon, definitely not a sprint.

Week 3 Breakdown

Cubs Record 0-1 -1.1 units

White Sox Record 0-2 -2.2 units

Play of the Day Record 2-2 -.2 units

Overall Record 2-5 -3.5 units

Let’s dig in to the early Cubs game in Cincinnati to find an advantage and get back on track.

Chicago Cubs (J. Arrieta) vs Cincinnati Reds (D. Axelrod)

Jake Arrieta gets another day start for the Cubs. He is 3-1 with a 1.64 ERA during day games. He is 1-0 with a 2.57 ERA against the Reds this year. In his career the Reds have a .138 BAA. Axelrod is making his second start of the year for the Reds. Between this year and last year, he has lost 8 straight starts. Rizzo is still out for the Cubs, but I think Arrieta holds up his end of the bargain in another day game. Play on this game is Cubs -120.
