Starlin Castro, the Cubs All-Star shortstop will be out for at least up to a week, due to a car accident that killed a relative and three close friends in the Dominican Republic. The Cubs are not releasing any more information about the matter, and expect Castro to fly back to the Dominican Republic, and place him on bereavement.
“It’s a family tragedy,” manager Rick Renteria said, “so we’ll just take it one day at a time.”
The Cubs aren’t really playing for much at this point, so there is no reason to rush the shortstop back. While Castro is out, mega prospect Javier Baez will slide back over to play shortstop.
